On 24 November 2004, over
500 gathered at Shakespeare's Globe to hear Dr Martin Lings give the
International Shakespeare Globe Fellowship Lecture on Shakespeare
and Sufism. Shaykh Hamza Yusuf provided an elegant and eloquent
introduction and vote of thanks for a man who had inspired
generations of scholars and students with insights and wisdom. The
lecture at the Globe turned out to be one of the last Dr Lings gave
before he died on 13 May 2005 [see
photographs from this event].
This celebration will bring
together family, friends and former students who will reflect upon
Dr Lings' life and read from some of his writings. Actors from the
Globe's celebrated company will also participate.
